Global Hospitality Program
Global Hospitality Program
The 4000 billion dollar Hospitality Industry today, is one of the oldest businesses, going way back to the innkeepers and taverns. Tourism, on the other hand, is a more recent invention which began in Europe, with Switzerland being one of the first countries to develop special accommodation and services for travellers.
In the late 1800’s, the concept of leisure tourism and hospitality spread across Europe, bringing flocks of wealthy travellers to Switzerland. It began with visitors seeking tours in the Swiss Alps, train rides and wellness tourism, palace-style hotels, thermal baths and ski resorts.
This new generation of wealthy guests had higher expectations for comfortable accommodations, convenient services and fine dining. This phenomenon thus gave birth to hospitality management schools.
Hospitality Management is a broad career field that provides many opportunities for international career progression. The career paths are as diverse as the industry with so many new hospitality concepts (Corporate hotel jobs) and innovation (AirBnb) changing the industry.
Hospitality management courses teach both professionally-focused hard skills (room pricing, cost-control, accounting, scheduling, etc.) and soft skills which are related to how one acts, and interacts in a professional environment.
In the past decade, the world population’s travel activity has increased and the hospitality industry has enjoyed a spurt of massive growth thus being one of the largest employers globally, which accounts for one out of every ten employment opportunities.
Some of the world’s top best Hotel companies to work with are Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental and Taj being in India. Hyatt is ranked as 70th employer by Fortune’s list and is among the top 5 hospitality employers to work for in 2022.
